CHC International Masters Shine On The World Stage

CHC is incredibly proud to celebrate the achievements of five of our International Masters players, who represented England and Wales across three age groups at this summer’s Masters World Cup in the Netherlands and Belgium.

It was a remarkable week of international hockey, with CHC players returning home with a full collection of medals - gold, silver and bronze - alongside some outstanding individual and team performances.

🥇 England Women’s O35s – Gold for Charli

A huge congratulations to Charli Roberts, who represented the England Women’s O35s and helped her side secure the World Cup gold medal. The England squad had a tremendous tournament, beating France 10-0, Scotland 2-0, USA 4-0, and Belgium 10-1, in the group stages. In the QF they beat Scotland 6-0, and in the SF the Netherlands 1-0. In the Final against New Zealand, the women came away 2-1 winners. Charli played an important role throughout the competition, scoring four important goals throughout the tournament, as England battled their way to the top of the podium and returned home with a well-deserved gold medal.

To represent your country is a huge achievement; to become a World champion makes the occasion even more special. We are incredibly proud of Charli and all that she has achieved. 🥇🏆

🥈 England Men’s O40s – Silver for Jonny and Matt

Jonny Bryan and Matt Dixon represented England Men’s O40s, producing a fantastic tournament performance and bringing home silver medals.

After losing their first game to Argentina 1-0 the men beat France 2-1, Zimbabwe 4-0, and Italy 12-0. in the QF, the men beat Scotland 3-1, and then South Africa 4-3, before drawing 2-2 with Australai in the final, and losing on shuffles.

Jonny contributed on the pitch, while Matt played his part as goalkeeper, with both helping England deliver an outstanding week of hockey against some of Europe’s strongest Masters sides.

Winning an international silver medal is a tremendous achievement, and we are delighted to celebrate Jonny and Matt’s success. 🥈👏

🥉 England Men’s O45s – Bronze for Alex

Alex Hay represented England Men’s O45s, who enjoyed an outstanding tournament and secured the bronze medal.

England produced some emphatic performances in the group matches, beating Australia 4-2, drawing with France 1-1, beating Germany 3-0 and Scotland 4-0. i the QF the men beat USA 5-1 and won against Ireland in the SF on shuffles. Coming up against the Netherlands in the final proved too much, with the men losing 2-0.

A place on the podium was a fitting reward for a brilliant week, and we are hugely proud of Alex for representing both England and CHC with such distinction. 🥉🏑

Wales Men’s O45s – International Pride for Padders

Simon “Padders” Padley represented Wales Men’s O45s as a player and was also part of the management team, taking on a dual role during the tournament.

Wales faced a challenging and competitive schedule, losing to the Netherlands 4-1, then beating Egypt 13-1, Canada 3-1, and Kenya 9-1. In the QF the men beat Ireland on shuffles and came up against South Africa in the 5/6 playoffs, sadly losing 3-2.

Padders played in all five of Wales’ matches and scored three of their goals, combining his responsibilities on the pitch with his role within the wider management team.

To represent your country is an honour in itself, and to contribute both as a player and as part of the management group demonstrates a huge commitment to the team. We are incredibly proud of everything Padders achieved during the tournament. 🏴🏑

A Week to Remember

For one club to have five members representing their countries across three international age groups is a wonderful achievement. To return with gold, silver and bronze medals, alongside so many memorable performances, makes the week even more special.

The dedication, commitment and talent required to reach international Masters level should not be underestimated. Each of these players has represented their country with pride and continues to be an inspiration to players throughout Cheltenham Hockey Club.
