about U16 Girls Cobras
Cheltenham runs two U16 girls teams. Outdoor, the Cobras compete in the Tier 1 (T1) Supra League, which has a league and knock-out component.
The Cobras also compete in the West Indoor Championships and we enter a team into the Copper Box Indoor tournament between Christmas and New Year, which is great fun.
Cobras training is on a Wednesday evening, 2000-2100 hrs, at Cheltenham College. The coaches are Phil Robson (Level 3 and Army Coach), and Rachel Chicken (West O50 Masters).
This group is always vibrant, supportive and energetic, bringing together girls from a wide variety of schools, which is excellent for developing new friendships.
Cobras have had a number of individual and team successes in recent years. Several girls have achieved junior and senior international honours while others have played in the Futures Cup or participated in the Diploma in Sporting Excellence programme or attended Talent Academies. Many have progressed through the adult teams to play National League hockey and are now representing their universities or other clubs.
Highlights include: T1 Supra League Shield Champions 2024; 4th in the 2022 National T1 Supra League, 3rd= in the 2022 National Indoor Finals, West Indoor Runners Up 2024 & Champions 2022, National T2 Plate Semi-Finalists 2022, National T1 Quarter-Finalists 2022 & 2021, National T1 Finalists 2020, National Indoor Finalists 2020, 2019 and 2015, Avon Junior Hockey League Champions 2019, 2018, 2016 & 2014.
