Thanks for your message!
We will do our best to get back to you as soon as possible.
Welcome to the March and penultimate edition of the CHC newsletter. As we near the end of the season, we are pleased to share our latest news with you. As ever, we’d like to express our thanks to our club sponsors, Cheltenham College, Root Group, Trefurn and Y1, for their support this season. Read more about our sponsors below.
Thank you so much to those who have responded to our invitation to Vice Presidents Day on Saturday March 22nd at Balcarras Pavilion. Included in the invitation are current CHC coaches, captains, team managers, and the executive committee. With 4 matches taking place throughout the day, it is set to be a wonderful occasion.
If you haven’t already, please RSVP below. And, if you have any dietary requirements, please include that information in your email.
If you want to make a day of it, the women’s 2s are playing at 10.45am and the men’s 2s follow them at 12 noon.
Refreshments will be served all afternoon. This is a great opportunity to catch up with friends of CHC. We do hope you can join us. Please RSVP so we can cater accordingly.
Ticket sales for the CHC Dinner Dance have now closed. The event, to which 97 of you are coming, takes place at the Queen’s Hotel on Saturday April 12th. Doors open at 7pm. Ticket includes 2-course meal, awards ceremony, and disco until midnight. It's set to be a great evening. Thanks to everyone for supporting it!
We are delighted to share news that two of women's 1s players, Emma Dewhurst and Charli Roberts, have both been selected for England O35s.
Emma and Charli have been part of the fabric of CHC for many years. Emma joined CHC as a school girl and Charli joined after university. Both have played first team hockey for many years, and continue to make a significant contribution to the running of the club, for which we are extremely grateful.
Well done ladies and best of luck with the summer fixtures!
With 5 games remaining, the men’s 1s remain in 3rd position, having won 11, drawn 2, and lost 4.
With 4 games remaining, the men’s 2s are in a relegation battle with Penarth, both teams on 7 points. We wish them well for the final games of the season!
The men’s 3s have moved up to 4th place, having won 12 and lost 6.
Good luck to the men’s O35s who play Hampton-in-Arden away on 16 March, in the fourth round of the cup.
The men’s O45s won their cup match against Solihull, 3-2, but they cut it fine with the winning goal in the final minute that avoided a penalty shoot-out. They will play their quarter-final against Clifton on Sun 23 March at Dean Close at1500 hrs.
Women’s 1s
With 3 games remaining, the women’s 1s are enjoying a strong season, sitting in 4th place having won 8, drawn 2, and lost 5.
Women’s 2s
In the first half of the season, the women’s 2s struggled to settle into their new league, but they are in a much safer position now, sitting in 6th place having won 4, drawn 9, and lost 5.
Women’s 3s
It looks like the women’s 3s will narrowly miss out on promotion this season, sitting in third place with 3 games to go.
Women’s 4s
With 6 games left, the women’s 4s are at the top of the table, having won 11 and drawn 3. Their goal difference is a magnificent 77!
Sadly, the U18 Girls lost their T2 Plate Quarter-Final to Old Georgians. Three of the four goals were scored within the first 9 minutes! Penalty corners played a significant part in the match with the Cheltenham goal coming from Evie. Sophie made some cracking saves and the defence performed particularly well. Most of the team had not been available for the first match in the competition and opponents withdrawing from earlier rounds meant that this was the first time that they had played together. In spite of this, everyone made a valuable contribution and the vast majority will be around next year.
The U16 Boys also had a disappointing outcome in their Tier 2 Quarter-Final cup match against Reading. After taking an early lead 2-0, they succumbed to relentless pressure from Reading. The score probably flatters Reading; it was more like a 3-2 loss. Well done on getting this far! The team still has 2 matches to play in the Tier 2 West League and, all being well, they will win the League for the 2nd year running.
The U16 Girls Cobras (A team) play their Tier 1 Supra League Plate Quarter-Final against Reading this Sunday. If they win, then they travel to Wimbledon to play the Semi-Final.
The U16 Girls Cheetahs (B team) have one match left in the Avon Junior Hockey League and 4 matches in 2 triangulars in the Tier 2 West League, which will determine the outcome of the League.
