The U16G had a fab day out at the Copper Box participating in the #indoorhockeyUK Championships. The competition provided the opportunity for players to play indoor hockey in an informal environment. While most clubs were focussed on achieving the highest position that they could in the tournament; we concentrated on giving players the opportunity to participate.
As the tournament progressed, both the squad and individual players improved, particuarly those who were less experienced. Inevitably constant substitutions does have a disruptive effect when playing indoor because of the emphasis on patterns of play. Nevertheless we adapted well and it was good to see every player adopting a lower body position for their flat sick tackles and there was greater use of the sideboards to generate passing opportunities.
Our goal scorers were Mia, Rose and Ava. Ava wins the award for the best celebration! The coach's player of the tournament was Poppy for her many reaction saves and clearances. The Players' Player was Alice who showed great versatility playing both midfield and defence. There were also several other nominations.
For the record our results were: 1-8 v London Wayfarers; 0-5 v Hockey Mentors; 0-2 v Wimbledon; 1-2 v Braintree; 1-10 v Knole Park; and 1-2 v Chelmsford. Our claim to fame is that we were the only team to score a goal against the winners, Knole Park!!
Well done everyone; an enjoyable evening!
